No. 13 Eastern Arizona Edges SMCC Women's Volleyball

The South Mountain Community College women's volleyball team (4-6, 0-1 ACCAC) lost 3-2 to No. 13 Eastern Arizona in an ACCAC contest in Thatcher, Ariz. SMCC battled back from an 0-2 deficit to win sets three and four and force a decisive fifth set before ultimately falling: 25-11, 25-17, 22-25, 22-25, 15-10. Sophomore Lexi Wasil led the Cougars with nine kills, freshman Rylea Simonich added eight and freshman Hope Williamson posted 12 assists and 13 digs for her first double-double. 

After posting 17 kills and 14 errors over the first two sets, the Cougars totaled 21 kills and eight errors over sets three and four to tie the match. SMCC finished the match with 39 kills, 39 assists, eight service aces, 77 digs and 12 blocks. 

Wasil added eight digs and a block assist to her nine kills, while Simonich hit .263 in 19 swings. She added seven digs, a solo block and a block assist. 

Williamson recorded a season-high 13 digs with 12 assists, five kills and three service aces. Sophomore Hayden Rosales finished with seven kills, two digs, and two block assists, while sophomore Mariah Smith had six kills, four digs, two block assists and hit .278 in 18 swings. 

Sophomore Delicea McAuley led SMCC with 25 assists and added seven digs and a service ace. Freshman Mikelle McAfee posted a team-high 17 digs with two service aces. Sophomore Shayna Simmers had seven digs, and freshman Ayanna Rae LeBlanc had four digs, three kills, three solo blocks and two block assists.
