SMCC Women's Volleyball Falls to Scottsdale CC, Arizona Western

The South Mountain Community College women's volleyball team (4-8, 0-3 ACCAC) lost 3-0 to Scottsdale CC on Sept. 6 and 3-0 to Arizona Western on Sept. 8 in a pair of ACCAC home matches at the SMCC Gym. Sophomore Lexi Wasil led SMCC with six kills against the Fighting Artichokes and then posted a team-best 11 kills against the Matadors.

Scottsdale CC posted a sweep of the Cougars on Sept. 6: 25-13, 25-12, and 25-14. 

SMCC hit .053 over the three sets, finishing with 22 kills in 95 attacks. The Cougars added 19 assists, 48 digs and two blocks in defeat. 

Wasil hit .105 in 19 swings and added three digs, and Sophomore Rylee Pitts totaled five kills, 13 digs, and two blocks assists. Freshman Ayanna Rae LeBlanc hit .133 with four kills in 15 attacks and added a block assist. 

Sophomore Delicea McAuley finished with 14 assists, three kills, and eight digs, and freshman Mikelle McAfee had 11 digs. Sophomore Hayden Rosales added three kills and three digs for SMCC. 

Arizona Western Recap

The Matadors held off the Cougars in set three to post the sweep on Sept. 8: 25-22, 25-21, and 27-25.

SMCC finished with 36 kills on 116 attacks to post a .164 hitting percentage. The Cougars had 33 digs, five service aces, 59 digs, and six blocks over the three sets. 

Wasil hit .226 and finished with 11 swings in 31 attacks. She added two digs, a solo block and two block assists. Pitts was second on the squad with six kills and added a career-high 20 digs, a service ace and a block assist. 

Freshmen Hope Williamson and LeBlanc had five kills, with LeBlanc hitting .250 in 16 attacks while Williamson added seven digs. Freshman Rylea Simonich totaled four kills, three block assists, and a solo block. 

McAuley led SMCC with 29 assists and added eight digs and a service ace, and McAfee had 15 digs and a service ace. Sophomore Shayna Simmers had a pair of service aces and three digs.
