Cougar Women's Volleyball Splits with Central Arizona, Scottsdale CC

The South Mountain Community College women's volleyball team (9-13, 4-6 ACCAC) split its two ACCAC contests last week, falling 3-0 at Scottsdale CC on Oct. 6 before sweeping Central Arizona 3-0 at home on Oct. 8. Against the Artichokes, sophomore Lexi Wasil led the Cougars with eight kills and three other Cougars added five. Two days later, sophomore Rylee Pitts led SMCC with 12 kills as the Cougars swept the Vaqueras. 

Scottsdale CC Recap

The Cougars fell in straight sets on the road at Scottsdale CC on Oct. 6: 25-17, 25-17, 25-18. SMCC hit .100 with 28 kills and 17 errors in 110 attacks and added 27 assists, 59 digs, three service aces and six blocks. 

Wasil hit .192 in 26 swings and added a dig and a block assist. Sophomore Rylee Pitts and freshmen Rylea Simonich and Hope Williamson had five kills for SMCC. Simonich posted two digs, two solo blocks and two block assists, while Williamson recorded five digs, a service ace, an assist, a solo block, and two block assists. Pitts added with six digs. 

Sophomore Delicea McAuley led SMCC with 24 assists and added 10 digs for her seventh double-double of the season. She also had three kills and a service ace. Freshman Mikelle McAfee posted a team-high 16 digs and added an assist and a service ace.

Central Arizona Recap

The Cougars rebounded with a 3-0 sweep of Central Arizona on Oct. 8: 25-17, 25-18, 25-18. 

SMCC finished with 34 kills and hit .200 with 16 errors in 90 attacks. The Cougars added 31 assists, nine service aces, 48 digs, and eight blocks (six solo blocks) in the victory over the Vaqueras. 

Pitts led SMCC with 12 kills on 24 swings to finish with a .375 hitting percentage. She added four digs, one solo block, one block assist, and one service ace. 

Williamson was second on the team with seven kills and finished with a .250 hitting percentage. Wasil posted four kills and five digs, and sophomore Mariah Smith and Simonich recorded three kills apiece. Smith finished with two digs, two solo blocks and two block assists, while Simonich had two digs and one solo block. 

McAuley led SMCC with 30 assists and added three kills and nine digs. McAfee finished with a team-high 12 digs and added two service aces and an assist.
