Bio

Ernest Pouncy joined the SMCC Women's Basketball staff as an assistant coach prior to the start of the 2023 -24 season.

A coaching veteran of more than 26 years at the high school and AAU levels, Pouncy most recently served as an assistant coach for the boy's basketball team at Verrado High School. He also worked as the Head Girls Basketball coach at Central High School for five seasons.

Pouncy worked as the Head Coach for Camelback High School in his first season in 2007 and earning a playoff berth. He was an assistant on the AAU level where he helped several players reach the NCAA Division I & Division II levels. Pouncy won three state titles as an assistant, including two at the High school level, 2006 at South Mountain and 2010 at Betty H. Fairfax, and one at Percy L. Julian Junior High in 1999-2000.

Pouncy grew up in Bridgeport, Connecticut where he was a standout player and one of the top state’s top players. He earned numerous honors and awards, JCC Schoolboy Classic (Top players out of NY, CT, NJ & Long Island), Connecticut Coaches Class All-Star Team, East & West Shrine Basketball Classic, The Naismith Memorial basketball Classic in Springfield, Ma, Peg Leg Bates Basketball Classic & including Street & Smith's Honorable Mention All - American in 75. During his college and military basketball career he earned MVP and Military honors. 

Pouncy earned a Bachelor's of Art degree in Multimedia Digital Animation & Graphic Design from UACT and a Master's of Education in Counseling from  Ottawa University.
