The South Mountain Community College women's basketball team lost 93-39 at Eastern Arizona in an Arizona Community College Athletic Conference contest on Dec. 14. Sophomore Andrea Willeto led the Cougars with 17 points. Still, the Gila Monsters shot 51.9 percent from the field to post the win.
Willeto finished 5-of-13 from the field and made 6-of-8 attempts at the free throw line. She added an offensive rebound and a steal in 27 minutes, and is averaging 12.6 points in 10 contests this season.
Sophomore Genesis Adams had seven rebounds to tie for the team lead, three of which came on the offensive glass. She added seven points, an assist and a block in 34 minutes. Adams leads SMCC in scoring at 15.4 points per game and rebounding at 8.7 per contest.
Freshman Kayla Pettet also had seven rebounds, including three offensive rebounds, in 11 minutes. Freshman Hailey Connor finished with six points, an assist and two steals, while freshman Jolie King had five points, an offensive rebound and a steal, and freshman Daziane Stevenson led SMCC with five assists and four rebounds.
SMCC shot 22.2 percent (12-of-54) from the field and 36.4 percent (4-of-11) from the 3-point line. The Cougars had 21 rebounds, seven assists and six steals.
