SMCC Baseball Falls Twice to Pima CC
April 06, 2025
The South Mountian Community College baseball team (32-14, 24-6 ACCAC) lost 8-7 (7 innings) and 14-8 to Pima CC in an ACCAC home doubleheader on Saturday, April 5. Freshman Drew Johnson went 3 for 4 with a home run and five RBIs, but the Cougars could not hold off an Aztec rally in the game-one defeat. In game two, the Aztecs led early and held off the Cougars, who had cut the deficit to 10-8 in the eighth, with four insurance runs in the ninth to sweep the twin bill.
SMCC Baseball Wins Pair over Mesa CC in ACCAC Action

The South Mountain Community College baseball team (32-12, 24-4 ACCAC) defeated Mesa Community College 10-6 on April 1 and 10-2 (8 innings) on April 2 in a pair of ACCAC Division II contests. Sophomore Marcus Romero hit two home runs, and freshman Gavin Short had four RBIs to help lead the Cougars to the victory on April Fool's Day. The next day, sophomore Luke Jones homered, sophomore Landon Springmeyer collected a triple, and Romero doubled to post the win over the Thunderbirds.
SMCC Baseball Sweeps ACCAC Series with Chandler-Gilbert CC
March 31, 2025
The South Mountain Community College baseball team (30-12, 22-4 ACCAC) won both ends of an ACCAC series with Chandler-Gilbert CC, claiming a 10-2, eight-inning home victory on Mar. 28, followed by a 9-4 road victory on Mar. 29. The Cougars slapped five doubles and stole three bases in the Mar. 28 victory to back up a combined two-hitter from sophomore Michael Caruso and freshman Grant Young. The following day, freshman Bryan Lorenz had three hits, including a home run, and sophomore Luke Jones had three hits, highlighted by two doubles.
Cougar Baseball Sweeps PVCC in Dramatic Fashion

The South Mountain Community College baseball team (28-12, 20-4 ACCAC) defeated Paradise Valley CC 16-13 in a road game on Mar. 25 and 3-2 in a home contest on Mar. 26 in a pair of thrilling contests. In the first game, SMCC pushed across four runs, including the game-winning two run single from sophomore Luke Jones, in the ninth inning to post a thrilling comeback win in a wild back-and-forth affair. The Cougars held off a PVCC rally in the second game as sophomore Matt Elliot picked up his second save in as many days.
SMCC Baseball Splits League Series with GateWay CC
March 24, 2025
The South Mountain Community College baseball team (26-12, 18-4 ACCAC) split a two-game ACCAC series with GateWay CC, falling 12-11 on Mar. 21 before rebounding for a 9-3 victory on Mar. 22. The Geckos staged a late rally in the Mar. 21 contest, scoring three runs in the bottom of the eighth and holding off a Cougar rally in the ninth to post the victory. The next day, freshman Bryan Lorenz and sophomore Christopher Mata hit home runs as SMCC claimed the season series with GWCC.
SMCC Baseball Defeats Glendale CC, Madison College
March 21, 2025
The South Mountain Community College baseball team (24-11, 17-3 ACCAC) swept an ACCAC series with Glendale CC, winning 11-1 (5 innings) on Mar. 18 and 12-4 (7 innings) on Mar. 19, and defeated Madison College 11-3 (7 innings) on Mar. 20 to continue its strong play. Sophomore Raul Parada had seven hits and five RBIs, sophomore Joe Terranova scored seven runs and hit three doubles, and freshman Bryan Lorenz posted seven hits and seven RBIs over the three victories. On the mound, freshman Lukas Geisler, sophomore Luis Martin Romero, and sophomore Jack Cecil turned in impressive performances to help lead the Cougars to victory.
SMCC Baseball Finishes 7-2 over Spring Break Slate
March 17, 2025
The South Mountain Community College baseball team (22-11, 15-3 ACCAC) enjoyed its time on Spring Break, finishing 7-2 with victories over Yavapai College, Phoenix College, Monroe CC (NY), Scottsdale CC, and Madison College (WI) during the week. The Cougar opened the nine-game slate by splitting a non-conference doubleheader at Yavapai College on Mar. 5, winning game one 14-13 before falling 11-5 in game two. Later in that week, SMCC split an ACCAC series with Phoenix College, winning 16-5 on Mar. 6 before falling 5-4 on Mar. 8. SMCC then defeated Monroe CC 11-1 in six innings on Mar. 10, swept a home ACCAC doubleheader (7-2, 10-6) from Scottsdale CC on Mar. 11, and posted 6-5 (Mar. 14) and 7-1 (Mar. 16) victories over Madison College. The Cougars got quality pitching and timely hitting from multiple players over the nine games.

The South Mountain Community College baseball team (15-9, 12-2 ACCAC) defeated Pima CC 2-0 (7 innings) and 12-1 (5 innings) in an ACCAC road doubleheader in Tucson on Mar. 4. Freshman Lukas Geisler tossed a three-hit, complete-game shutout, and sophomore Christopher Mata and freshman Bobby Pierce Jr. had two hits apiece in the 2-0, game-one victory. In game two, the Cougars used a seven-run fourth inning and got a solid start from sophomore Luis Martin Romero to post a 12-1, five-inning victory.
SMCC Baseball Posts Pair of Wins over Mesa CC

The South Mountain Community College baseball team (13-9, 10-2 ACCAC) defeated Mesa CC 10-1 (seven innings) on Feb. 28 and 9-5 on Mar. 1 in a pair of ACCAC Division II contests. Freshman Bryan Lorenz hit two home runs, including a grand slam, and freshman Grant Young tossed 4.1 innings of relief to pick up the win in the road victory on Feb. 28. The next day, sophomore Raul Parada homered, and the Cougars recorded eight stolen bases to back-up 6.2 innings of relief work from freshman Thomas Peck in the 9-5 home win.
Offense Powers SMCC Baseball to Victories over Chandler-Gilbert CC

The South Mountain Community College baseball team (11-9, 8-2 ACCAC) defeated Chandler-Gilbert 11-3 (7 innings) on Feb. 25 and 11-3 (8 innings) on Feb. 26 in a pair of ACCAC games. The offense produced 10 hits, including two doubles and six stolen bases, to back up a solid start from freshman Lukas Geisler in the Feb. 26 road victory. The next day, sophomore Landon Springmeyer blasted a two-run home run and a three-run double, and freshman Derek Montijo added four RBIs as the Cougars posted the run-rule home win.

SMCC Baseball Falls Twice to Paradise Valley CC
February 24, 2025
The South Mountain Community College baseball team (9-9, 6-2 ACCAC) lost 15-9 on Feb. 21 and 10-6 on Feb. 22 to Paradise Valley Community College in a pair of ACCAC games. Freshman Bobby Pierce Jr. led SMCC with five hits, three runs, a double, and a stolen base, and sophomore Joe Terranova added three hits, two runs and three RBIs in the home loss on Feb. 21. The next day, freshman Nuri Todd went 2 for 3 with two runs and freshman Drew Johnson added a pair of RBIs in the road defeat.
SMCC Baseball Takes Two from GateWay CC
February 21, 2025
The South Mountain Community College baseball team (9-7, 6-0 ACCAC) defeated GateWay CC 9-3 on Feb. 18 and 14-6 (8 innings) on Feb. 19 in a pair of ACCAC contests. Sophomore Joe Terranova finished a perfect 5 for 5 with three doubles, two runs, and two RBIs, and freshman Lukas Geisler tossed seven innings of one-hit baseball in the 9-3 victory at Gene Autry Park. The next day, four Cougars posted multiple hits, SMCC recorded five stolen bases, and sophomore Luis Martin Romero picked up his first win.
SMCC Baseball Rallies to Beat Glendale CC Twice
February 17, 2025
The South Mountain Community College baseball team (7-7, 4-0 ACCAC) defeated Glendale CC 9-5 in a home game on Feb. 14 and 5-4 in a road game on Feb. 15 in a pair of ACCAC contests. Sophomore Luke Jones had the game-winning RBI in both contests, twice driving in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning. Freshmen Grant Young and Braeden McCarroll earned wins on the mound, and sophomore Matt Elliot picked up the save in the game-two victory.

The South Mountain Community College baseball team (5-7) lost 9-3 and 7-3 in a pair of seven-inning games in Coolidge on Tuesday, Feb. 11. Freshman Bobby Pierce Jr. had a pair of hits, a run, an RBI, and a stolen base, and freshman Nuri Todd added a two-run single in the game one loss. In game two, sophomore Raul Parada hit his team-leading eighth double, Pierce Jr. had a pair of hits, and sophomore Luke Jones had a sacrifice fly.
SMCC Baseball Sweeps Scottsdale CC to Open ACCAC Play
February 10, 2025
The South Mountain Community College baseball team (5-5, 2-0 ACCAC) defeated Scottsdale CC 9-2 on Feb. 7 and 4-3 on Feb. 8 in a pair of ACCAC games to open its 2025 conference slate. Sophomore David Galindo improved to 3-0 on the year with 5.2 innings and five strikeouts, sophomore Christopher Mata drove in three runs, and freshman Drew Johnson reached base safely in five plate appearances in the 9-2 home victory. The next day, Johnson drove in the game-winning run with an RBI double in the eighth and sophomore Matt Elliot earned his first save of the year by slamming the door on a Fighting Artichoke comeback in the ninth.
