Yavapai College Defeats SMCC Women's Basketball

The South Mountain Community College women's basketball team (9-17, 3-16 ACCAC) lost 81-57 to Yavapai in an ACCAC home game on Feb. 18. Sophomore Myla Lee led four Cougars in double-figures with 16 points, but the Roughriders used big second and third quarters to post the road win. 

SMCC led 14-12 after 10 minutes, but Yavapai College responded with a 26-9 second quarter to take a 38-23 lead into halftime. The Roughriders extended their lead in the third quarter with a 20-11 advantage before the teams tied at 23-23 in the fourth quarter. 

The Cougars shot 31.8 percent (21-of-66) from the field and finished with 38 rebounds, 13 assists and six steals. 

Lee was 5-of-12 from the floor and distributed a season-high eight assists with four rebounds and three steals. She is averaging 12.1 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game in 23 contests this season. 

Freshman Hailey Connor was second on the team with 12 points, and she added three rebounds, three assists and a steal in the loss. Sophomore Andrea Willeto posted 11 points, a team-high nine rebounds and three 3-pointers, while sophomore Genesis Adams had 10 points and seven rebounds. 

Freshman Daziane Stevenson posted six points and eight rebounds, and sophomore Nyakuer Aguek had two points and four rebounds.
