SMCC Women's Hoops Falls to Chandler-Gilbert CC

The South Mountain Community College women's basketball team (0-5, 0-3 ACCAC) lost 79-46 to Chandler-Gilbert CC in an ACCAC game at the SMCC Gym on Dec. 9. Sophomore Daziane Stevenson scored a career-high 18 points to lead the Cougars and freshman Mimi Miller grabbed a season-high 12 rebounds in defeat. 

SMCC trailed 45-9 at halftime but won the second half 37-34. SMCC shot 33.3 percent (15 of 45) from the field and 63.6 percent (14 of 22) from the free throw line. The Cougars grabbed 36 rebounds, dished out six assists and had 14 steals in defeat. 

Stevenson was an efficient 7 of 8 from the field and 4 of 6 from the charity stripe in 29 minutes. She added three assists, one rebound, and one steal in the contest. She is averaging 6.0 points. 3.0 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per contest this season. 

Miller pulled down a season-high 12 rebounds with seven points in 35 minutes. She has had double-figure rebounds in two straight games and is averaging 11.6 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game.  

Sophomore Hailey Connor came off the bench to finish second on the team with nine points. She added four rebounds, five steals, and an assist in 33 minutes. 

Freshman Chloe Wiley posted eight points as she knocked down a pair of 3-pointers. She also had two rebounds and two steals in 24 minutes. 

Freshman Carissa Collier had two points and six rebounds, and freshman Janae Byrd finished with two points, four steals, two assists, and a rebound.
