SMCC Posts 23-Shot Improvement in Second Round of Estrella Mountain Women's Invitational

The South Mountain Community College women's golf team took third place at the Estrella Mountain Women's Invitational Mar. 13-14 at Sundance Golf Course in Avondale, Ariz. SMCC posted a 23-shot improvement in its second round, leapfrogging Estrella Mountain for third place at the event. Freshman Kylie Rehberger led the Cougars individually, recording a 19-over, 163 to take fifth place. 

The Cougars opened the tournament at 380 and sat in fourth place, seven shots behind Estrella Mountain CC and three shots ahead of Chandler-Gilbert CC. However, SMCC posted a 357 in the second round to pass Estrella Mountain and take third place by 18 strokes. 

Rehberger carded a nine-shot improvement in her second round, improving from 86 to five-over 77. She edged Mesa CC's Abby Schmidt for fifth individually by two strokes. 

Trixie Sabulao placed 13th and improved by three strokes in her second round, posting 91 and 88. Jenna Lee was 14th and improved by three strokes in her second round, recording 92 and 89. 

Tabitha Bitter placed 17th and recorded a three-stroke improvement in her second round, carding rounds of 93 and 90. Emma Fisher finished 24th and improved by nine strokes in her second round (112 and 103), and Alyssa Miner was 25th with 111 and 107.
