SMCC Baseball Battles with Central Arizona, Yavapai College
April 24, 2024
Over the past week, the South Mountain Community College baseball team (31-22, 21-15 ACCAC) battled with Central Arizona and Yavapai College in four ACCAC contests. The Cougars fell 2-1 and 8-7 to the Vaqueros on April 19 and 20 before splitting a doubleheader with the Roughriders on April 23 by winning game one 7-3 before falling 21-6 (7 innings) in game two.
SMCC Baseball Sweeps Eastern Arizona to Extend Winning Streak
April 17, 2024
The South Mountain Community College baseball team (30-19, 20-12 ACCAC) swept an ACCAC doubleheader at Eastern Arizona on April 16, winning 6-1 in seven innings in game one and 17-5 victory in game two. Sophomore Nikolas Miller tossed six innings with six strikeouts in the game one victory, and sophomore Stephen Hernandez fanned four and allowed one hit over seven innings in the game two victory. Offensively, sophomore Dominic Chacon hit three home runs on the day, including a pair in the game two victory, to raise his season total to 11 and six in his last six games.
SMCC Baseball Sweeps Non-Conference Series with Phoenix College
April 15, 2024
The South Mountain Community College baseball team (28-19) swept a non-conference series with Phoenix College, winning 19-7 (7 innings) on April 12 and 11-6 on April 13. The Cougars posted 19 runs and 15 hits over six innings, highlighted by home runes from sophomore Wylie Waters and Dominic Chacon. The next day, Chacon homered again and freshman Brady Lord finished 4 for 5 with a double, a triple, and three RBIs.
SMCC Baseball Sweeps ACCAC Doubleheader against Arizona Western
April 10, 2024
The South Mountain Community College baseball team (26-19, 18-12 ACCAC) defeated Arizona Western twice in an ACCAC doubleheader at the SMCC Baseball Field on Tuesday, April 9. Sophomore Dominic Chacon finished 2 for 3 with a double and a home run and the Cougars added three other extra-base hits as they posted an 11-7, seven-inning victory. In game two, four Cougars had multiple hits and three others had multiple RBIs as SMCC won 11-5.
Cougar Baseball Sweeps Cochise College in ACCAC Doubleheader
April 08, 2024
The South Mountain Community College baseball team (24-19, 16-12 ACCAC) defeated Cochise Collge 7-0 (7 innings) and 8-3 in an ACCAC doubleheader at the SMCC Baseball Field on Saturday, April 6. Sophomore Nikolas Miller tossed six innings of two-hit scoreless baseball, and--- sophomore Niko Rosell had a three-run double to help lead SMCC to the victory in game one. In game two, the Cougars led wire-to-wire and used a five-run eighth inning to snuff out any chances of a Cochise rally.
SMCC Baseball Splits with Scottsdale CC

The South Mountain Community College baseball team (22-19, 14-12 ACCAC) split an ACCAC two-game series with Scottsdale CC, winning 5-2 at home on April 2 before falling 8-6 on the road on April 3. Redshirt sophomore Matthew Lighthall tossed seven strong innings and freshman Joe Terranova went 3 for 4 with two runs, an RBI, and a stolen base in the 5-2 victory. The next day, sophomore Wylie Waters had four hits and fellow sophomores Karsen Waslefsky and Niko Rosell added three apiece, but the Artichokes posted a walk-off, two-run home run in the ninth to defeat the Cougars.
SMCC Baseball Splits ACCAC Series with Chandler-Gilbert CC
April 01, 2024
The South Mountain Community College baseball team (21-18, 13-11 ACCAC) split an ACCAC series with Chandler-Gilbert CC, falling 7-6 at home on Mar. 29 before posting a 14-7 road win on Mar. 30. Sophomore Karsen Waslefsky hit a two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the eighth to tie the first game, only to see the Coyotes push a run across in the ninth to steal the victory. The next day, freshman Joe Terranova smashed a pair of home runs, and sophomore Wylie Waters blasted two triples and a double as the Cougars blew open a 3-2 game with an eight-run eighth inning en route to the win.
SMCC Baseball Splits ACCAC Series with Gateway CC
March 28, 2024
The South Mountain Community College baseball team (19-18, 11-11 ACCAC) split a two-game ACCAC series with Gateway CC, winning 12-9 on Mar. 26 before falling 8-3 on Mar. 27. Sophomore Wylie Waters smashed a double and a triple and drove in a season-high four runs in the game one victory, while freshman Joe Terranova led SMCC with two hits, including a double, in the 8-3 defeat.
SMCC Baseball Sweeps ACCAC Series from Glendale CC
March 25, 2024
The South Mountain Community College baseball team (18-17, 10-10 ACCAC) defeated Glendale CC 2-1 in 12 innings on Friday, Mar. 22 and 6-2 on Saturday, Mar. 23, in a pair of ACCAC contests. Freshman David Galindo tossed eight innings of scoreless relief, and the Cougars pushed across the winning run on a passed ball in the 12th inning on Mar. 23. The next day, sophomore Dominic Chacon hit a solo home run and walked three times, and freshman Jaden Upper posted a double and a triple as SMCC won 6-2.
Cougar Baseball Splits ACCAC Series with Mesa CC
March 21, 2024
The South Mountain Community College baseball team (16-17, 8-10 ACCAC) split an ACCAC two-game series with Mesa CC, falling 4-3 at MCC on Mar. 19 before winning 5-3 on Mar. 20 at home. Sophomore Dominic Chacon hit his team-leading home run in the first game, but the Thunderbirds rallied in the bottom of the ninth to post the win. In the second game, sophomore Jaden Miranda hit a two-out, two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth to help the Cougars earn a series split.
Cougar Baseball Splits with PVCC and Cochise, Sweeps Western Nebraska
March 18, 2024
The South Mountain Community College baseball team (15-16, 7-9 ACCAC) went 4-2 over spring break. The Cougars split an ACCAC two-game series with Paradise Valley CC, winning 6-1 on Mar. 8 before falling 2-0 on Mar. 9. In their midweek series, the Cougars swept two games with Western Nebraska CC by winning 5-3 on Mar. 12 and 19-7 (7 innings) on Mar. 13. Finally, the Cougars returned to ACCAC action and split a doubleheader at Cochise College on Mar. 16, falling 8-6 (7 innings) in game one before rallying for a 5-3 (11 innings) victory in game two.

The South Mountain Community College baseball team (11-14, 5-7 ACCAC) split an ACCAC series with Phoenix College, falling 6-5 in 11 innings on the road on Mar. 5 before posting a 12-2, seven-inning home victory on Mar. 6. Sophomore Wylie Waters blasted a home run and sophomore Dominic Chacon had a two-run double in the 6-5 loss, while Waters and freshman Jaden Upper produced three-hit performances in the 12-2 victory.
SMCC Baseball Falls Twice to Pima CC
March 04, 2024
The South Mountain Community College baseball team (10-13, 4-6 ACCAC) lost 8-7 (7 innings) and 15-5 (7 Innings) in an ACCAC doubleheader in Tucson on Saturday, Mar. 2. The Cougars rallied from a 7-0 deficit in game one to tie the contest before the Aztecs posted a walk-off victory. In the second game, SMCC again mounted a comeback but ultimately fell to Pima CC.
SMCC Baseball Splits ACCAC Twibill with Yavapai College
February 29, 2024
The South Mountain Community College baseball team (10-11, 4-4 ACCAC) split an ACCAC home doubleheader against Yavapai College on Tuesday, Feb. 27, winning game one 11-5 in seven innings before falling 6-4 in game two. Freshmen Joe Terranova and Brady Lord and sophomores Jaden Miranda and Wylie Waters all had two hits in the game, one victory. Sophomore Karsen Waslefsky had three hits, including a triple, in game two of the doubleheader.
SMCC Baseball Splits with Phoenix College, Sweeps Eastern Arizona
February 21, 2024
The South Mountain Community College baseball team split a non-conference two-game series with Phoenix College on Feb. 16-17 and swept an ACCAC home doubleheader against Eastern Arizona on Feb. 20. The Cougars struck for 22 runs and 24 hits against the Bears but got stung by an extra-inning rally in the game one loss. Against the Gila Monsters, the SMCC offense continued to produce, racking 18 runs and 18 hits to improve to 9-8 overall and 3-1 in the ACCAC.

The South Mountain Community College baseball team has helped student-athletes continue their baseball careers at four-year universities and in the professional ranks for the upcoming 2024 season. Below is a list of former SMCC student-athletes, where they are continuing their baseball careers and how they are doing against some of the nation's best.
