SMCC Women's Golf Places Second at Estrella Mountain Invite

The South Mountain Community College women's golf team placed second at the Estrella Mountain Invite Feb. 23-24 at Sundance Golf Club in Buckeye, Ariz. SMCC battled with Mesa CC for the team title, but a challenging second round gave the Thunderbirds the edge. Individually, sophomore Kylie Rehberger placed second at +15 (159), and freshman Angelina Borg-Malec tied for third at +18 (162) to pace the Cougars. 

SMCC led after 18 holes with a team score of +42 (330) to post a five-stroke advantage over Mesa CC. However, in the second round, the Thunderbirds carded a 317 compared to a 329 for the Cougars and won the event by seven strokes at +76 (652). SMCC finished at +83 (659) over the 36 holes. 

Rehberger posted rounds of 77 and 82 to place second, while Borg-Malec carded identical scores of 81 to tie for third with Mesa CC's Jolie Guyrette. 

Freshman Mia Hill placed 12th at +27 (171) with rounds of 89 and 82, while sophomore Trixie Sabulao was 13th at +29 (173) with scores of 89 and 84. Freshman Raquel Pargas placed 14th at +32 (176) with scores of 83 and 93.
