SMCC Women's Golf Places Seventh at NJCAA Southwest District Championships

The South Mountain Community College women's golf team placed seventh at the NJCAA Southwest District Championships at Hillcrest Golf Course in Sun City West, Ariz., from April 17-19. The Cougars finished at +72 (936) over the 54 holes as sophomore Kylie Rehberger tied for 13th at +11 (227) and freshman Angelina Borg-Malec tied for 17th at +16 (232). 

SMCC posted rounds of 323, 308 and 305 at the event, improving in each round. They edged ACCAC rival Pima CC by 23 strokes for seventh at the event. 

Rehberger carded rounds of 78, 75 and 74 to move up three spots on the final leaderboard and into a tie for 13th. Borg-Malec moved up six spots over the last 18 holes after finishing with a weekend-best score of 75 in her final round. She posted a 77 and an 80 over the first 36 holes. 

Sophomore Trixie Sabulao jumped up three spots in the final standings after posting a 77 in her third round to finish tied for 26th at +21 (237). She also recorded scores of 84 and 76 at the event. 

Freshman Mia Hill tied for 30th at +24 (240) with scores of 84, 77 and 70, while freshman Raquel Pargas was 39th at +36 (252) with scores of 87, 81 and 84.
