Kylie Rehberger, Angelina Borg-Malec Qualify for NJCAA National Championships

Sophomore Kylie Rehberger and freshman Angelina Borg-Malec of the South Mountain Community College women's golf team have qualified as individuals to compete in the 2023 NJCAA National Championships at Buffalo Dunes Golf Course in Finney County, Kan., from May 9-12. Rehberger tied for 13th at +11 (227), and Borg-Malec tied for 17th at +16 (232) at the NJCAA Southwest District Championships at Hillcrest Golf Course in Sun City West, Ariz., from April 17-19.

At the Southwest District Championships, Rehberger carded rounds of 78, 75 and 74 to move up three spots on the final leaderboard and into a tie for 13th. Borg-Malec moved up six places over the last 18 holes after finishing with a weekend-best score of 75 in her final round. She posted a 77 and an 80 over the first 36 holes. 

Rehberger and Borg-Malec earned First Team All-ACCAC honors after placing second and tying for fourth at the South Mountain Invite on Mar. 29-30 at Aguila Golf Club in Laveen Village, Ariz. 

Earlier this spring, Rehberger carded a back-nine 37 to break a three-way tie for first and claim individual medalist honors at +13 (153) at the Pima Women's Invite Jan. 28-29 at Dell Urich Golf Course in Tucson, Ariz. She also placed second at the Mesa Thunderbird Invitational and Estrella Mountain Invitational in other spring competitions. 

Borg-Malec placed third at the Estrella Mountain Invite at +18 (162) at Sundance Golf Course on Feb. 23-24. She tied for fifth at the Paradise Valley Invitational at +16 (160) at Cave Creek Golf Course in Phoenix. 

The two helped SMCC win the Coyote Classic Mar. 25-26 at Las Colinas Golf Course in Queen Creek, Ariz, the first tournament victory in program history. 

Last year, Rehberger earned All-District, All-Region and All-Conference honors and tied for 52nd at the 2022 NJCAA National Championships in Florida.
