Kylie Rehberger, Angelina Borg-Malec Post Impressive Results at NJCAA Women's National Championships

PHOENIX ---

Sophomore Kylie Rehberger and freshman Angelina Borg-Malec of the South Mountain Community College women's golf team performed well at the 2023 NJCAA Women's National Championship May 9-12 at Buffalo Dunes Golf Course in Garden City, Kan. Rehberger tied for 22nd at +25 (313) while Borg tied for 44th at +40 (328) as both improved over the four-day tournament to wrap up an outstanding 2023 spring season.

Rehberger carded scores of 77, 81, 88 and 78 over the four days on the par-72 course. She had one birdie in her first round, two in her second, four in her third and one over her final 18 holes. In 2022, Rehberger tied for 52nd at the NJCAA National Championships with a four-round score of +57 (345). She earned All-Conference, All-Region and All-District honors in both seasons at SMCC.

Borg-Malec improved over the four days and moved up 13 spots on the final leaderboard after recording a 78 over her last 18 holes. She also posted scores of 89, 81 and 80 to tie for 44th. She had two birdies in her final round. Borg-Malec also earned All-Conference, All-Region and All-District honors for her work in the 2023 spring.

"We played well despite some difficult conditions. We dealt with a high roof, winds over 25 miles per hour daily, and additional weather delays. Still, Kylie and Angelina left it all out there, and I was proud of their performances," said SMCC head coach Brady Edwards

Pearl Phoncharatkun of Seminole State (FL) won the individual medalist honors at +8 (296), and Seminole State also won the team competition at +49 (1,201) to defeat Daytona St. College by 22 strokes.

At the Southwest District Championships, Rehberger carded rounds of 78, 75 and 74 to move up three spots on the final leaderboard and into a tie for 13th. Borg-Malec moved up six places over the last 18 holes after finishing with a weekend-best score of 75 in her final round. She posted a 77 and an 80 over the first 36 holes.

Rehberger and Borg-Malec earned First Team All-ACCAC honors after placing second and tying for fourth at the South Mountain Invite on Mar. 29-30 at Aguila Golf Club in Laveen Village, Ariz.

Earlier this spring, Rehberger carded a back-nine 37 to break a three-way tie for first and claim individual medalist honors at +13 (153) at the Pima Women's Invite Jan. 28-29 at Dell Urich Golf Course in Tucson, Ariz. In other spring competitions, she also placed second at the Mesa Thunderbird Invitational and Estrella Mountain Invitational.

Borg-Malec placed third at the Estrella Mountain Invite at +18 (162) at Sundance Golf Course on Feb. 23-24. She tied for fifth at the Paradise Valley Invitational at +16 (160) at Cave Creek Golf Course in Phoenix.

The two helped SMCC win the Coyote Classic Mar. 25-26 at Las Colinas Golf Course in Queen Creek, Ariz, the first tournament victory in program history.
