SMCC Men's Golf Wins Pima CC Invitational

The South Mountain CC men's golf team finished at -5 (571) to win the Pima CC invitational on Feb. 27-28 at Randolph North Golf Course in Tucson, Ariz. The Cougars carded a 288 in the opening round to trail by one stroke after 18 holes. However, SMCC responded with a tournament-best 283 in the second round to win the event by seven strokes over Glendale CC. Individually, freshman Ryan Blair tied for second, and sophomore Damon Vilkauskas took fourth to pace the Cougars. 

Blair opened with a three-under 69 to take a one-stroke lead over several rivals. His second-round 72 saw him tie with Pima CC's Max Krueger at -3 (141) for the event. Vilkauskas was on his heels, scoring 73 and 69 to take fourth at -2 (142). 

Sophomore Zachary Erskine tied for ninth at +1 (145) with rounds of 73 and 72, while freshmen Brady Clark and Cole Finch tied for 13th. Clark posted identical scores of 73 over the two rounds, while Finch carded a 76 and a 70 to finish at +2 (146). Sophomore Ethan Klose tied for 22nd at +5 (149) with scores of 76 and 73. 

SMCC has won all three spring tournaments it has entered in 2023 and returns to action Mar. 13-14 at the Paradise Valley Invitational at Cave Creek Golf Course in Phoenix.
