SMCC Women's Golf Improves at Home Invitational

The South Mountain Community College women's golf team hosted the SMCC Women's Invitational at Aguila Golf Course in Laveen Village, Ariz., on Feb. 27-28. Facing competition from several conference rivals and visiting North Central Missouri College, the Cougars put together some impressive rounds at their home course.
Five Cougars competed at the event: Jenna Lee, Emma Fisher, Miriam Verdugo, Victoria Negrete and Gracie Henderson.
Lee led the Cougars for the second-straight tournament, posting a 15th-place finish with a 202 over the two days. Verdugo (210), Fisher (212) and Negrete (218) placed 17th, 18th and 19th, respectively. Henderson was 24th with a 298.
As a team, the Cougars finished fourth, totaling an 842 over the two days. Mesa CC won the event with a team score of 676, and the Thunderbirds' Alyzza Vakasiuola won the event with a two-day score of 147.
