Miriam Verdugo Leads SMCC Women's Golf at ACCAC Spring Fling Invitational

The South Mountain Community College women's golf team placed third at ACCAC Spring Fling Invitational at Apache Creek Golf Club on Mar. 11-12 in Apache Junction, Ariz. Sophomore Miriam Verdugo led the Cougars with a 12th-place finish (+54, 196), improving by two strokes in her second round.
Verdugo shot a 97 on Mar. 12, two strokes better than her total from the day before. She had a par on the 14th hole and recorded 10 bogeys in her round.
Freshman Emma Fisher tied for 13th at the event, firing a 95 on the first day of the event. In her second round, she recorded five bogeys and finished at +61, 203.
Fellow freshman Jenna Lee was 16th at +70, 212 for the two days. She had five bogeys in her second round.
Victoria Negrete produced a par and seven bogeys in her second round to finish at +76, 218 to place 17th at the event.
Gracie Henderson played one round at the event, carding a +53, 124 on Mar. 12.
The Cougars opened with a 403 and then posted a 426 on the second day to earn third place.
SMCC returns to action at the Pima CC Invitational on Mar. 29-30 at Randolph Golf Course in Tucson, Ariz.
