The South Mountain Community College volleyball team swept Ottawa University-Surprise 3-0 (30-28, 25-19 and 25-22) in a road match on Oct. 14. After a lengthy first set, the Cougars rolled to the sweep behind a solid team performance.
In the first set, the Cougars hit .207 on 29 attacks and held on for a narrow 30-28 victory. After that, SMCC hit a blistering .399 in the final two sets to clinch the contest.
Madison Wampler and Hayley Meshay each had eight kills to lead SMCC. Meshay hit a blistering .583 in 12 swings and added 13 assists, three digs and two block assists. Wampler hit .222 and added a dig. Rayne Cox added six kills while Alyssa McDowell had five.
