SMCC Women's Volleyball Splits with Pima CC, Yavapai College

The South Mountain Community College women's volleyball team (13-15, 8-8 ACCAC) lost 3-2 to Pima CC on Oct. 25 and defeated Yavapai College 3-0 on Oct. 27 in a pair of ACCAC contests. The Cougars fell in five sets to the Aztecs on Sophomore Day despite 14 kills from sophomore Rylee Pitts and 11 from freshman Rylea Simonich. Two days later, SMCC wrapped up their 2023 campaign with a 3-0 sweep of the Roughriders. 

Pima CC Recap

The Cougars won the first two sets but could not avert an Aztec comeback on Sophomore Night: 22-25, 20-25, 25-23, 25-15, 15-12.

SMCC hit .152 over the five sets and finished with 47 kills and 23 errors in 158 swings. The Cougars added 44 digs, five service aces, 94 digs, and eight blocks. 

Pitts posted 14 kills in 47 attacks in the final home match of her SMCC career. She added 16 digs to record her 11th double-double of the season. 

Simonich finished with 11 kills in 30 attacks to hit .333 for the match. She added five solo blocks and two digs. 

Sophomore Lexi Wasil had nine kills for SMCC and added three digs and a solo block. Freshman Hope Williamson posted four kills, six digs and a solo block. 

Sophomore Delicea McAuley led SMCC with 42 assists and added 17 digs to finish with her 13th double-double of the season. 

Freshman Mikelle McAfee led SMCC with a season-high 31 digs and added two digs and two service aces. Sophomore Hayden Rosales added 11 digs and two service aces, and sophomore Shayna Simmers had seven digs and a service ace.

Yavapai College Recap

The Cougars swept the Roughriders to conclude their 2027 season: 25-19, 25-14, and 25-17. 

SMCC totaled 34 kills and 11 errors in 91 attacks to finish with a .253 hitting percentage. The Cougars added 32 assists, nine service aces, 62 digs, and nine blocks. 

Wasil led SMCC with nine kills in the victory, hitting .333 in 24 attacks. Pitts and Simonich each had seven kills, with Pitts adding eight digs, a solo block, and a block assist, while Simonich posted three solo blocks, two service aces, two digs, and a block assist. 

McAuley posted her second double-double of the week with 29 assists and 10 digs. She also had three kills and two block assists. McAfee led SMCC with 18 digs and four service aces, and sophomore Mariah Smith had five kills, six digs, two solo blocks, and an assist.
