SMCC Women's Volleyball Downs Phoenix College

The South Mountain Community College women's volleyball team (6-10, 2-4 ACCAC) defeated Phoenix College 3-1 in an ACCAC match at the SMCC Gym on Sept. 20. Sophomore Rylee Pitts led SMCC with 17 kills and five other Cougars added at least five in the victory over the Bears: 25-12, 25-19, 24-26, 25-13.
SMCC hit .299 over the four sets, finishing with 57 kills in 137 swings. The Cougars also recorded 54 assists, a season-high 17 service aces, 73 digs and five blocks. SMCC had double-digit kills in all four sets and hit a staggering .370 in the final set to close out the conference win.
Pitts finished with 17 kills on 41 swings and added four digs. Sophomore Lexi Wasil was second on the team with nine kills in 27 attacks and added two digs and a block assist.
Sophomore Mariah Smith had eight kills in 15 swings to finish with a .467 hitting percentage. She also had two digs, a solo block and a block assist. Sophomore Brynley Lynch hit .538 with seven kills in 13 attacks and added six digs and a solo block.
Freshman Rylea Simonich had six kills in nine attacks and posted a dig and a solo block, and freshman Ayanna Rae LeBlanc had five kills in 11 swings with four service aces, two digs, and a block assist.
Freshman Mikelle McAfee led SMCC with a season-high six service aces and added a team-best 21 digs. Sophomore Delicea McAuley led the Cougars with 45 assists and added 12 digs to post her fifth double-double.
Freshman Hope Williamson finished with three kills, seven assists, 10 digs, a service ace and a block assist.
