SMCC Women's Volleyball Edged by Eastern Arizona

The South Mountain Community College women's volleyball team (5-10) lost 3-2 to Eastern Arizona in a non-conference match on Sept. 18 in Thatcher, Ariz. The Cougars battled back from an 0-2 deficit by winning sets three and four, but the Gila Monsters held on in the fifth set to post the home victory: 25-23, 25-20, 25-27, 25-27, 15-11. 

The Cougars posted 56 kills in 190 swings to hit .126 over the five sets. They added 53 assists, six service aces, a season-high 113 digs, and 14 blocks. SMCC had 28 kills over the third and fourth sets to force a fifth and decisive frame. 

Sophomore Hayden Rosales led SMCC with a career-high 26 digs, her second-straight match with at least 20. Sophomore Rylee Pitts recorded her fifth double-double of the year with 15 kills and 21 digs. She added two solo blocks and three block assists. 

Freshman Mikelle McAfee was the third Cougar at least 20 digs, and she added two service aces. 

Freshman Rylea Simonich posted a season-high 13 kills in 31 attacks to hit .387 over the five sets. She had three digs, two solo blocks, two block assists, and one service ace. 

Sophomore Lexi Wasil was the third Cougar with double-figure kills, finishing with 12 in 44 attacks. She added three digs, two block assists, and one solo block. 

Freshman Hope Williamson posted eight kills, 19 digs, four assists and two block assists, and sophomore Mariah Smith had four kills and three block assists. 

Sophomore Delicea McAuley led SMCC with 49 assists and added 18 digs to record her fourth double-double of the season. She added two service aces and a kill.
