Cougar Baseball Runs Streak to 11 with Win over GCU Club Team

The South Mountain Community College baseball team (17-7) extended its winning streak to 11-straight games with a 15-3 victory over the Grand Canyon University Club Team on Wednesday, Mar. 4. SMCC racked up 17 hits, four of which went for extra bases, and four Cougars recorded multiple RBIs in the win.

Six Cougars finished with multiple hits, led by JD Wadleigh's 4 for 4 performance. He added a triple, three runs, two RBIs, a stolen base and a walk. Easton Erwin went 3 for 3 with two triples, three RBIs and a run scored.

Michael Quinones also had three hits, finishing with one RBI, one run and one walk. Jake Haze went 2 for 4 with three RBIs, two runs, and a walk and Noah Bachman was 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs. Ricky Munoz was the sixth Cougar with multiple hits, finishing 2 for 5 with a run scored.

SMCC struck for two runs in the first and three in the second to take a 5-1 lead. The Cougars blew the game open with an eight-run third inning.

In the frame, Bachman had an RBI single to score Mason Skaugrud, Brendan Blakeman hit a sacrifice fly to score Garrett Bevacqua and Wadleigh tripled to score Connor Watson. Erwin hit a two-run triple, Quinones had an RBI single and Bachman recorded a two-run double in his second at-bat of the frame.

South Mountain Community College would add two more runs in the fifth to conclude its offensive explosion.

Tyler Magin (1-0) picked up his first win of the season with four innings on the hill. He scattered four hits and two earned runs to go with two strikeouts. Carter Krosky, Israel Gutierrez and TJ Czyz all pitched an inning for the Cougars.
