SMCC Men's Volleyball Falls to GCU Club Team

The South Mountain Community College men's volleyball team (1-4) lost 3-1 (25-20, 25-22, 19-25, and 25-19) to the Grand Canyon University Club team in a road match on Friday, Feb. 24. Freshman Connor McCann led the Cougars with 14 kills and hit .345 in 29 attacks, but SMCC faced some hitting challenges in the second and fourth set and fell to the host Antelopes. 

The Cougars totaled 30 kills in 124 swings, but also finished with 27 errors to post a .024 hitting percentage over the four sets. SMCC had 24 assists, four service aces, 42 digs, three solo blocks and 14 block assists in the contest. 

McCann added three block assists to his team-leading 14 kills. Freshman Karson Bingham was second on the squad with six kills in 21 attacks, and he added eight digs and a block assist. Freshman Michael Howell had four kills in 15 swings and added four digs and a solo block. 

Freshman Brandon Pauole led SMCC with 20 assists and 10 digs and added a service ace, a solo block and two block assists. Sophomore Andy Sanchez had seven digs and freshman Zach Brown had two kills, five digs, a solo block and a block assist.
