The South Mountain Community College softball team (27-14, 19-9 ACCAC) lost 8-0 (5 innings) and 10-0 (5 innings) to Phoenix College in a road ACCAC doubleheader on Saturday, April 5. Sophomore Dionna Leanio and freshmen Alyssa Jemio and Tazia Blake recorded base hits in the game-one loss for SMCC. In game two, Leanio and sophomore Jada Montoya hit doubles for the Cougars.
Game one saw the Bears score three times in the second and five in the fourth to post the run-rule victory. Jemio took the loss in the circle with four innings of work, allowing nine hits, eight earned runs, and four walks.
Leanio finished 2 for 3 and almost scored on Montoya's double in game two. However, she was thrown out at the plate. Sophomore Nadia Rascon drew a pair of walks, and Jemio earned a free pass.
Su'a took the loss in game two with three innings of work, allowing seven hits, seven earned runs, and one walk to go with three strikeouts. Freshman Kayle James tossed the fourth for SMCC and allowed two hits, two walks, and one earned run.
