The South Mountain Community College softball team (12-12, 9-7 ACCAC) lost 4-0 and 9-0 (five innings) to Phoenix College in an ACCAC home doubleheader at the SMCC Softball Field on Mar. 4. Freshman catcher Tazia Blake had a base hit in each game for the Cougars, including her third double of the season.
Game One Recap
Phoenix College's Yasmine Bernal tossed a one-hit shutout to help lead the Bears to a 4-0 victory. Blake had the lone SMCC hit, a double in the fourth inning. SMCC did draw six walks in the loss, with freshman Kaeliann Glass earning three free passes. Blake, freshman Alyssa Jemio, and sophomore Elise Saucedo also drew walks.
Sophomore Sadie Su'a (4-2) took the loss in the circle. She allowed eight hits, three earned runs, and two walks while fanning three.
Game Two Recap
The Bears' Maddison Peter tossed a three-hit shutout to help lead the Bears to a 9-0, five-inning victory in game two of the doubleheader.
Blake, Jemio, and sophomore Jada Montoya singled in the loss for SMCC. Sophomore Jessica Wallace and Su'a drew walks in defeat.
Jemio (3-3) took the loss in the circle with 1.1 innings of work. She allowed five hits and five earned runs. Su'a allowed three hits and two runs, and freshmen Kayle James and Rebekah Mendoza also saw time in relief.
