SMCC Women's Volleyball Falls to Scottsdale CC

The South Mountain Community College women's volleyball team (3-7, 1-1 ACCAC) lost 3-0 to Scottsdale CC on Friday, Sept. 2, in an Arizona Community College Athletic Conference match at SMCC. Sophomore Madison Cadden led the Cougars with seven kills, but the Artichokes posted a team-hitting percentage of .344 in 90 swings to win in three sets: 25-19, 25-15 and 25-12. 

The first set was SMCC"s best as the Cougars hit .143 with seven kills in 28 attacks. SMCC jumped out to a 6-1 lead and stretched its advantage to 14-11. However, SCC would tie the match at 14-14 and then win 11 of the following 15 points to claim the set. 

SMCC managed seven kills again in the second set but hit .108 in 37 attacks. This time, the Artichokes took an early 6-1 advantage that grew to 15-6 at one point. SMCC got to within 13-18 and forced an SCC timeout, but the Artichokes won seven of the following nine points to win 25-15. 

In the third set, SCC put things away early with leads of 7-3 and 14-4 that eventually gave way to a 25-12 victory in the set. 

For the match, SMCC hit .097 with 22 kills on 93 attacks. They totaled 22 assists, four service aces, 35 digs and five blocks. 

Cadden led SMCC with seven kills on 22 swings for a .182 hitting percentage. She added a block assist in the loss. Sophomore Emily Wilson added six kills on 36 attacks and also posted six digs. Freshman Rylee Pitts was third on the team with five kills. 

Freshman Delicea McAuley had 17 assists and five digs, while sophomore Imani Cannon led the team with 13 digs and two service aces.
