The South Mountain Community College women's volleyball team (4-17, 2-10 ACCAC) lost 3-2 to Chandler-Gilbert CC in an ACCAC match on Wednesday, Oct. 9, at the SMCC Gym. Sophomore Rylea Simonich led SMCC with 16 kills and recorded her 11th double-double of the season with 16 digs. Freshman Bailee Baca had 11 kills and hit .423 with nine digs, while sophomore Raegan Moran posted her second double-double of the year with 22 assists and 11 digs.
SMCC won set one 25-19, totaling 14 kills on 41 attacks. The Coyotes took the next two sets (25-23, 25-20), but the Cougars rallied in set four for a 25-16 victory. They finished with 11 kills and a .273 hitting percentage. Unfortunately, the Coyotes posted a 15-5 victory in the fifth set to claim the victory.
The Cougars totaled 50 kills on 161 swings to post a .230 hitting percentage. They added 49 assists, seven service aces, 84 digs, seven solo blocks, and 12 block assists.
Simonich had 16 kills in 45 swings to hit .289 over the five sets. Her 16 digs were the second-most on the squad, and she added four assists, three solo blocks, two service aces, and one block assist.
Baca hit .423 over 26 attacks and finished second on the team with 11 kills. She added nine digs, two service aces, one assist, one solo block, and one block assist.
Sophomore Ayanna Rae LeBlanc was third on the team with eight kills and added four block assists, one dig, one solo block, and one service ace. Sophomore Lesjune Florance-Littles had six kills and five digs, and sophomore Savannah Collings had five kills, two block assists, one dig, and one solo block.
Moran recorded her second double-double of the year with a team-high 22 assists and a season-high 11 digs. Sophomore Hope Williamson had 19 assists, three digs, two kills, and one block assist.
Sophomore Mikelle McAfee led SMCC with 26 digs and added two assists and a service ace.
