SMCC Women's Volleyball Falls to Pima CC, Glendale CC

The South Mountain Community College women's volleyball team (4-16, 2-9 ACCAC) fell 3-0 to Pima CC on Oct. 2 and 3-0 to Glendale CC on Oct. 4 in a pair of ACCAC matches last week. Sophomore Lesjune Florance-Littles led SMCC in kills in both contests, finishing with nine kills against the Aztecs and a career-high 10 kills against the Gauchos. Sophomore Mikelle McAfee had double-digit digs, and sophomore Ayanna Rae LeBlanc recorded 11 blocks over the two matches. 

Pima CC Recap

The Cougars fell in straight sets to the Aztecs in a road match on Oct. 2: 25-19, 25-19, 25-20. SMCC hit .146 over the three sets, finishing with 25 kills in 82 swings. The Cougars also tallied 25 assists, three service aces, 33 digs, four solo blocks, and ten block assists. 

Florance-Littles made her season debut and finished with nine kills on 24 attacks. She added six digs, one assist, and a solo block across the three sets. 

McAfee led SMCC with 12 digs and posted three assists. Freshman Alyssa Szymanski was second on the team with four kills and added two block assists and one dig.

Sophomores Savannah Collings and LeBlanc had three kills apiece, with LeBlanc posting three solo blocks and three block assists while Collings had a block assist. 

Sophomore Hope Williamson led SMCC with 18 assists and added two kills, two service aces, and three digs. 

Glendale CC Recap

SMCC pushed sets two and three to extra points but ultimately fell in straight sets to the Gauchos: 25-22, 28-26, and 26-24. 

The Cougars finished with 36 kills, 35 assists, seven service aces, 59 digs, two solo blocks, and 14 block assists over the three sets. 

Florance-Littles led SMCC with 10 kills and recorded her first double-double with 11 digs, representing a new career best. 

LeBlanc was second on the team with nine kills, hitting .500 in 16 swings. She added four digs, four block assists, one solo block, and one service ace. 

Sophomore Rylea Simonich had seven kills in 30 attacks and added seven digs and four block assists. 

Williamson finished with a team-high 20 assists and also posted four kills, nine digs, one service ace, and one block assist. Sophomore Raegan Moran had 13 assists, six digs, and one service ace. 

McAfee had a team-high 15 digs and added four service aces and one assist. Collings had three kills and three block assists, and Szymanski had three kills, two digs, two block assists, and one solo block.
