Cougar Pitchers Deliver Two-Hit Shutout over PVCC

The South Mountain Community College baseball team (16-7) defeated Paradise Valley Community College 1-0 in a non-conference game on Mar. 24 at PVCC. Nolan LivseyTrent Adams and Shawn Triplett combined on a two-hit shutout, and Noah Bachman scored the game's only run as the Cougars rebounded from a tough pair of losses at Central Arizona.

Livsey (2-1) started the game for SMCC and limited the Pumas to two hits in five innings. He had five strikeouts and three walks to pick up his second win of the season. Adams had two strikeouts in the sixth inning to earn the hold, and Triplett also fanned two to earn his conference-leading sixth save of the season.

Paul Sachen and Gillis Champagne had the two SMCC base hits, and Bachman scored on a wild pitch with two outs in the third.

Through 23 games, the Cougars own a .281 batting average and .393 on-base percentage as a team. Freshman Brice Martinez leads the squad with a .361 batting average, 19 runs scored and 11 stolen bases. Sophomore Justin Quinn has a team-high 23 hits and four home runs, and freshman McKay Barney leads the squad with four triples and 20 RBIs.

SMCC sports a 4.31 ERA in 167 innings of work on the mound as a team. The Cougars have struck out 184 batters and walked 93 while surrendering eight home runs. Carter Krosky has pitched a team-high 23.1 innings and is 3-1 with a 3.42 ERA and 23 strikeouts. Adams is 4-0 with a 3.38 ERA in 8.0 innings of work, and Triplett is 2-0 with six saves, 21 strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA in 15.2 innings of work. 

The Cougars return to action on Saturday, Mar. 27, with a conference doubleheader at Glendale Community College. The first game starts at noon.
