Cougar Men's Basketball Defeats Park-Gilbert (JV) 111-84

The South Mountain Community College men's basketball team defeated Park-Gilbert (JV) 111-84 in a non-conference game on Nov. 12 at the SMCC Gym. Sophomores Steven Cervantes and Jimmy Causey Jr. led the Cougars with 23 points, and the three other SMCC starters scored in double-figures in the victory.  

The Cougars shot 56 percent (42-of-75) from the field and 47.4 percent (9-of-19) from 3-point range. They also made 90 percent (18-of-20) off their free throws, grabbed 37 rebounds, dished out 24 assists and blocked seven shots. SMCC also had 11 steals in the win. 

Cervantes finished 8-of-10 from the field and knocked down five of his six attempts from the 3-point line. He added five assists, three rebounds and a steal in 25 minutes. Causey Jr. went 10-of-15 from the field and added six rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block. 

Sophomores Darien Allen and Khabri Davis each scored 13 points. Allen grabbed five rebounds and had three assists, while Davis had a team-high seven rebounds. Freshman Jaylen Wesley posted 10 points, four rebounds, two steals and an assist in 21 minutes. 

Off the bench, sophomore Abdi Odowaay finished with seven points, two assists and two steals, and freshman Zachary Cieslo recorded eight points and two rebounds. Freshman Reama Brownlee had six points and three rebounds, and fellow freshman Nahshon Harper had a team-high six assists and three steals.
