SMCC Men's Basketball Defeats Phoenix College to Win Season Series

The South Mountain Community College men's basketball team defeated Phoenix College 82-77 in an ACCAC contest at Phoenix College on Monday, Mar. 4. Freshman Bobby Holcomb led SMCC with a season-high 29 points and three other Cougars scored in double-figures as they won the season series against the Bears. 

SMCC led 43-37 at halftime and held on for the five-point victory after falling 40-39 in the second half. 

Holcomb finished 8 of 15 from the field and 4 of 7 from 3-point range. He added nine free throws, five rebounds, and two assists in the win. 

Sophomores Jaylen Wesley and Nyzhir Brown scored 15 points in their final game in a Cougar uniform. Wesley led SMCC with seven rebounds and added one block, steal, and assist. Brown knocked down four 3-pointers to go with two assists and a rebound. 

Freshman Parker Escalante finished with 13 points and led SMCC with four assists. He also recorded four rebounds, one block, and one steal. 

Freshman Jayven Driscoll tied for second on the team with five rebounds, freshman Deavon Felix had four and two rebounds, and freshman Deven Johnson scored four points.
