The South Mountain Community College men's basketball team lost 77-68 to Arizona Western in an ACCAC home game on Jan. 23. Sophomore Jaylen Wesley had 23 points, and freshman Bobby Holcomb scored 22 to lead the Cougars.
Wesley added seven rebounds, five assists, four steals, and one block to his 23 points in 40 minutes. He has scored at least 20 points in every game this season, averaging 27.2 points and 10.7 rebounds in 18 contests this season.
Holcomb returned to the line-up and finished 9 of 15 from the field and 4 of 8 from 3-point range. He added four rebounds and two assists in 33 minutes, averaging 15.8 points and 2.9 rebounds in 12 contests this season.
Sophomore Nyzhir Brown made three 3-pointers and finished with 11 points, three assists, one rebound, and one steal in 29 minutes. Freshman Parker Escalante had seven points, two steals, one rebound and one assist, while freshman Deven Johnson came off the bench to record four points.
