SMCC Men's Basketball Falls to Chandler-Gilbert CC

The South Mountain Community College men's basketball team lost 94-65 to Chandler-Gilbert CC in an ACCAC road game on Saturday, Feb. 17. Freshman guard Bobby Holcomb led the Cougars with 18 points, sophomore Nyzhir Brown added 16, and freshman Parker Escalante finished with 11 in defeat. 

SCC trailed 42-26 at halftime and lost 52-39 in the second half. The Cougars shot 40.7 percent from the field (22 of 54) and 50 percent from 3-point range. 

Holcomb was 5 of 13 from the field and made three 3-pointers in 35 minutes. He added two rebounds, two assists, and five free throws in the loss. 

Brown knocked down four 3-pointers and finished 6 of 12 from the field. He added two rebounds and a steal in 35 minutes. Escalante was 3 of 7 from the field and led SMCC with six rebounds. He also had two assists and one steal in 31 minutes. 

Freshman Torian Gant came off the bench to finish with eight points and a steal, and freshman Deven Johnson scored six points and one steal. Freshman Deavon Felix had four points and five rebounds. 

Sophomore Jaylen Wesley led SMCC with four steals and added three rebounds, three assists, and two points.
