Cougar Men's Hoops Defeats Skyline Prep Post-Grad

The South Mountain Community College men's basketball team (2-0) defeated Skyline Prep Post-Grad 84-69 in a non-conference contest at the SMCC Gym on Saturday, Nov. 18. Sophomore Jaylen Wesley scored a game-high 29 points, freshman Parker Escalante added 18, and freshman Nyzhir Brown finished with 12 as the Cougars improved to 2-0 on the young season. 

SMCC led 39-24 at halftime, and both teams scored 45 points in the second half. The Cougars shot 49.2 percent (29-of-59) from the field and 77.8 percent (21-of-27) from the free-throw line. SMCC totaled 36 rebounds, 10 assists, nine steals, and three blocks in the victory. 

Wesley was 10-of-19 from the floor and 8-of-11 from the charity stripe. He added eight defensive rebounds and three steals over 32 minutes. Escalante was 4-of-7 from the field and 10-of-12 from the line, adding one rebound, three assists, and one steal in 38 minutes. 

Brown knocked down three 3-pointers and added five rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block to his 12 points. Freshman Deavon Felix came off the bench to record eight points and six rebounds, four of which came on the offensive glass. 

Sophomore Colton Thomas scored nine points off the bench for SMCC and added five rebounds and two assists in 16 minutes. Freshman Keyvone Craig had four points, four rebounds, three assists, and one steal in 19 minutes.
