SMCC Men's Hoops Falls at Phoenix College

The South Mountain Community College men's basketball team lost 86-72 at Phoenix College in an ACCAC game on Jan. 11. Freshman Jaylen Wesley led SMCC with 14 points, and sophomore Darien Allen added 13, but the Bears used a big first half to help secure the conference win. 

SMCC trailed 51-28 after 20 minutes of play but came back to win the second half 44-35. The Cougars shot 45.9 percent from the field and 40 percent from 3-point range and added 19 rebounds, 11 assists and five steals. 

Wesley was 5-of-8 from the field with a pair of 3-pointers. He also had five rebounds, two assists and a steal in 24 minutes. Allen was 6-of-11 from the floor with three rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a steal in 21 minutes. 

Sophomore Kiai Apele scored eight points off the bench, and freshman Nahshon Harper added seven points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals in 17 minutes. Sophomore Khabri Davis and freshman Jimmy Causey Jr. each had six points.
