Wesley, Holcomb, and Escalante Earn All-ACCAC Honors

Sophomore Jaylen Wesley earned First Team All-ACCAC Division II and All-Region I Division II honors after leading the ACCAC in scoring (25.5 ppg) and rebounding (10.4 rpg) during the 2023-24 regular season. Freshmen Bobby Holcomb and Parker Escalante received a spot on the Third Team All-ACCAC Division II honors for their play during the season.  

A 6-4 guard from Phoenix, Wesley started 28 games for the Cougars and shot 46.4 percent from the field, 37.5 percent from 3-point range, and 87.5 percent from the free-throw line en route to his conference-leading 25.5 points per game.

Over the course of the regular season, he was the only conference player to average double-figures in rebounding. He tied for the league lead at 2.4 steals per game. His 1.1 blocks per game ranked third, and his 3.2 assists per game ranked 12th. 

Nationally, his scoring average ranked fifth among all NJCAA Division II players, and his 10.4 rebounds ranked 13th. He scored at least 20 points in all but two contests and poured in a career-high 38 points in a win over Vancouver Island University on Dec. 30. He grabbed a career-high 18 rebounds in a game at Yavapai College on Dec. 6 and posted 13 double-doubles during the season. 

He finished his SMCC career with 1,183 points over 58 games and 57 starts to average 20.4 ppg. 

Holcomb, a 6-0 guard from Phoenix, averaged 16.9 points in 22 games and 21 starts. He also posted 3.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists per contest, shooting 46.9 percent from the field and 45.7 percent from the 3-point range. 

He scored a season-high 29 points in the season finale victory over Phoenix College on Mar. 4 and knocked down a season-high six 3-pointers in a win over the Bears on Feb. 14. He made at least four 3-pointers eight times and grabbed a season-high nine rebounds in the Feb. 14 win against the Bears. 

He dished out a season-high three assists three times and had a season-high three steals in the season-opening win over Southern Nevada on Nov. 4. 

Escalante, a 6-0 guard from Mesa, Ariz., averaged 13.1 points, 3.0 assists, and 2.5 rebounds in 29 games for the Cougars. He scored a career-high 25 points on 8 of 12 shooting from the field in a Jan. 10 victory at Mesa CC. He posted 22 points twice and had a season-high two 3-pointers twice. 

He was second on the team in assists and had a season-high seven assists twice, including the season-finale victory over Phoenix College. He grabbed a season-high six rebounds against Chandler-Gilbert CC and recorded a season-high five steals in a game at Glendale CC.
