SMCC Men's Golf Wins Chandler-Gilbert Invite

The South Mountain Community College men's golf team won the Chandler-Gilbert Invite at Apache Creek Golf Club in Apache Junction, Ariz., on Feb. 25-26. The Cougars finished at an even-par, 568 for the two days at the event, defeating second-place Glendale CC by 11 strokes. Freshmen Ethan Klose and  Zachary Erskine tied for third at one-under, 141, to lead SMCC. 

The Cougars opened the tournament with a four-under 284 and closed with a four-under 288 in the event's second round. 

Klose opened with a one-over 72 and posted a two-under and team-best 69 in his second round. Erskine posted an opening-round two-under 69 and then carded a one-over 72 to tie with Klose and lead the Cougars.

Cecil Belisle recorded a five-under 66 over his first 18 holes to lead the event. He posted a five-over, 76 in his second round to finish at even-par and tied for fifth at the event.

Carter Rowe tied for 16th at six-over, 148 for the 36 holes. In his second round, he improved by six strokes, carding an even-par 71. William Groom placed 18th at seven-over, 149 with scores of 73 and 76.
