SMCC Men's Golf, Jorge Parada Win Chandler-Gilbert CC Spring Tournament

The South Mountain Community College men's golf team won the Chandler-Gilbert CC ACCAC Spring Tournament with a score of -4 (572) at Toka Sticks Golf Course in Mesa, Ariz., on April 2-3.  The Cougars posted scores of four-over 292 and eight-under 280 to defeat second-place Chandler-Gilbert CC by 11 strokes. Individually, sophomore Jorge Parada won individual medalist honors with a final score of -7 (137) to edge CGCC's Jose Carlos Licon by two strokes. Freshman Jack Taylor tied for fifth at +1 (145), freshman Jaxson Wright was seventh at +2 (146), and freshmen Luke Padilla and Adam Croix tied for eighth at +3 (147). 

Parada opened with a two-under 70 that featured four birdies and placed him in a tie for the tournament lead. He posted a five-under 67 in his second round, opening with four straight birdies, closing with three straight, and totaling nine for the round. The five-under 67 was the best score by an individual at the event. 

Taylor started with a one-over 73, posting four birdies over the opening 18 holes. He carded four birdies in his second round, including three of the first five holes, to finish at even-par 72. 

Wright posted rounds of two-over 74 and even-par 72 to finish seventh. His first round featured three birdies over the first four holes, and he had five more in his second round. 

Padilla recorded scores of two-over 72 and one-over 73 with three birdies in both rounds. Croix opened with a six-over 78 but rebounded with a three-under 69 in his second round to tie with Padilla for eighth. He sank a birdie on No. 18 to close out his first round and carried it over the next day when he carded five more. 

Freshman PJ Segerstrom tied for 19th at +8 (152) with scores over three-over 75 and five-over 77. He had five birdies in his first round and two in his second round.
