
SMCC Men's Golf Places Second at Gila Monster's Spring ACCAC Tournament

The South Mountain Community College men's golf team placed second at +1 (577) at the Gila Monster's Spring ACCAC Tournament hosted by Eastern Arizona at Mt. Graham Golf Course in Safford, Ariz. on Jan. 27-28. Individually, sophomore Jorge Parada and freshman Jack Taylor tied for third at -1 (143) to lead the Cougars, and freshman Adam Croix scored a top-five finish and took fifth at +1 (145).
SMCC opened with a three-under 285 in the first round to trail the host Gila Monsters by seven strokes at the par-72 course. However, on the second day, the Cougars could not cut into the deficit and fired a team score of four-over 292 to finish at +1 (577).
Parada carded a four-under 68 in his opening round to trail the tournament leaders by one stroke. He had three birdies over the opening nine holes and added two more, plus an eagle three on the par-five No. 14. His second round featured three birdies, and he tied for third with Taylor at -1 (143).
Making his SMCC debut, Taylor eagled the par-five No.2 in his opening round and added three birdies to post a two-under 70. He added two more birdies in his second round to match Parada for third.
Croix posted two eagles, on No. 2 and No. 11, and a birdie in his opening round to card a one-over 73. He added two more birdies in his second round to finish at +1 (145).
Freshman Jaxson Wright tied for 10th at +4 (148) behind two birdies in his first round and four in his second. He posted two rounds of two-over 74.
