Men's Golf Wins Fourth Spring Tournament; Belisle Claims Individual Medalist

The South Mountain Community College men's golf team won the Gaucho Spring Shootout Mar. 20-21 at Corte Bella Golf Club in Sun City West, Ariz. On the par-71 golf course, the Cougars captured the team title by 15 strokes over the Glendale CC at +11 (579) for the two days. Individually, Cecil Belisle won his first spring tournament with a one-under, 141 for the event's two days. 

The Cougars opened with a two-over, 286 to take a 16-stroke lead over Glendale CC. The host Gauchos could only gain one stroke on SMCC in the second round as the Cougars finished at nine-over 293. 

Belisle, the 2021 NJCAA Division II National Champion, carded a three-under, 68 in the opening round to take a two-stroke lead. He then posted a two-over, 73 in the second round, to defeat Glendale CC's Eli Cruzan and teammate Ethan Klose by four strokes. 

Klose opened at one-under 70 and added a four-over 75 in the second round to finish at three-over, 145 to tie for second. 

Jake Carlson tied for sixth at six-over, 148 after rounds of 73 and 75, and Sean Markham also registered a top-10 finish by tying for ninth. He posted rounds of 79 and 72 to finish at nine-over, 151. 

Zachary Erskine tied for 20th at 13-over 155, carding rounds of 82 and 73. Jando Hernandez tied for 29th at 18-over, 160 with rounds of 75 and 85.
