Trio of Cougars Earn NJCAA Division II PING All-American Honors

South Mountain Community College men's golf student-athletes Cecil BelisleSean Markham and Ethan Klose earned NJCAA Division II PING All-American honors for their work on the course during the 2022 spring season. Belisle and Markham earned First Team honors, Klose received Second Team honors, and the three also earned All-West District honors. 

Belisle has won twice during the spring to give him five career victories at SMCC. He won the Gaucho Spring Shootout and captured the Region I Division II title for the second-straight year. Both tournaments were at Corte Bella Golf Course in Sun City West, Ariz. 

He opened with a two-under 69 and then carded rounds of 68, 70 and 70 to win the Region I title for the second-straight year at -7 (277). Belisle carded a three-under, 68 in the opening round and then posted a two-over, 73 in the second round to win Gaucho Spring Shootout, 

Markham has won twice this spring, claiming individual medalist honors at the Estrella Mountain Invite and the Paradise Valley Classic. 

In the second round, he carded a five-under 66 to move up eight spots on the leaderboard and record his first tournament victory at the Estrella Mountain Invite. Markham then finished at nine-under, 135 at the Paradise Valley Classic. He opened with a three-under 69 and then posted a six-under 66 in the second round to edge three teammates. 

Klose took second at the Region I Division II Championships at -3 (281), with three rounds under-par at the event. He opened with a one-under 70 and sandwiched rounds of two-under 69 around a two-over 73 in round three. The performance was his fifth top-five and third second-place finish of the spring. 

As a team, SMCC won seven times this spring and advanced to the NJCAA Division II National Championships at Twin Hills Country Club in Joplin, Mo., May 9-12. The Cougars carded a one-under, 283 to finish at even-par (1,136) at the par-71 course in their final round at the Region I Division II Championships.
