Cecil Belisle, Sean Markham Earn Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar Honors

PHOENIX ---

South Mountain Community College men's golf sophomores Cecil Belisle and Sean Markham received 2022 Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar honors for their work in the classroom in the 2021-22 academic year. The sophomores had to receive their Associate's Degree, were in their last year of athletic eligibility, participate in 50 percent of their team's competitive rounds, maintain a stroke average under 77.0 and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.

Belisle and Markham were two of eight NJCAA student-athletes selected for the prestigious honors. The duo helped lead SMCC to the 2022 NJCAA Division II National Championship, the eighth in program history, and both will transfer for the 2022-23 athletic season. Markham heads to Sonoma State University and Belisle off to the University of Kansas to continue their intercollegiate golf careers.

Markham received PING First Team All-American honors for his play in 2022. He played in six tournaments for the 2022 NJCAA Division II National Champions and tied for 43rd at the NJCAA DII Championships at +19 (307).

He won twice in the spring, capturing the Estrella Mountain Invite at -5 (137) and the Paradise Valley Classic at -9 (135). He finished fifth at the Region I Championships at +4 (288), tied for ninth at the Eastern Arizona Invite at +3 (147) and tied for ninth at the Gaucho Spring Shootout at +9 (151).

Belisle won the individual NJCAA Division II National Championship in 2021 and 2022. The 2022 NJCAA Jack Nicklaus Award winner, Belisle was a two-time First Team NJCAA and PING All-American who competed in 13 tournaments for SMCC. In 2022, he won three times during the spring: he finished at E (288) to claim the individual National Championship and help lead his squad to the team title, and won the NJCAA Region I Championship for the second-straight year at -7 (277) and won the Gaucho Spring Shootout at -1 (141).
