SMCC Men's Golf, Jorge Parada Capture PVCC Fall Invitational Titles

The South Mountain Community College men's golf team won the PVCC Fall Invitational with a score of -4 (556) over two rounds at the Encanto Golf Course in Phoenix from Oct. 7-8. Sophomore Jorge Parada claimed individual medalist honors at -7 (133) with rounds of 67 and 66 on the par-70 course, and sophomore Adam Croix moved up three spots on the final leaderboard with a second-round 68 to tie for third place. 

Parada won his first intercollegiate event by four strokes over second-place Jose Carlos Ricon of Chandler-Gilbert CC. He posted four birdies and recorded an eagle on the par-five No. 12 to finish at three-under 67 in the first round. The next day, Parada carded five birdies to finish at four-under 66. 

Croix had two birdies in his first round en route to an even-par 70 and then recorded three in his second round to finish at two-under 68. He tied with Luke Stephens of Mesa CC for third. 

Freshman Jaxson Wright was among four competitors to tie for seventh at +2 (142). He opened with six birdies across the opening 18 holes to finish at two-under 68 and had one in his second round to card a four-over 74. 

Freshman Luke Padilla moved up two spots in the second round to tie for 13th at +4 (144). He started the tournament with one birdie in the first round to card a three-over 73 but rallied for four in the second round to post a one-over 71.  

Freshman Kenny Taylor tied for 16th at +5 (145) with rounds of two-over 72 and three-over 73 and posted two birdies in each round. Sophomore Basil Strolz was 20th at +7 (147) with scores of four-over 74 and three-over 73. He carded two birdies in his first round and three in the second round.
