SMCC Men's Golf Captures Paradise Valley CC Spring Tournament

The South Mountain Community College men's golf team won the Paradise Valley CC Invitational at +11 (571) and had five Cougars finish in the top 10 at Encanto Golf Course on Feb. 11-12, 2025. Leading by two strokes after the first round, SMCC carded a six-under 274 to win the event by 27 strokes. Individually, sophomore Jorge Parada placed second at +3 (143), freshmen Adam CroixPJ Segerstrom, and Jaxson Wright tied for third at +5 (145), and freshman Jack Taylor tied for eighth at +9 (149) to lead the Cougars. 

SMCC led by two strokes over Chandler-Gilbert CC at +17 (297) after a challenging first round. The Cougars found their footing the next day, carding a -6 (274) to finish at 571 and 27 shots better than second-place Mesa CC. 

Parada scored a four-over 74 in his first round as he posted birdies on the 11th and 12th holes. He improved by five strokes in his second round with a one-under 69 and five birdies. 

Croix moved up 19 places on the final leaderboard after posting a four-under 66 in his second round to finish tied for third. He had six birdies in his second round after carding none the day before and went from seven bogeys to one over the two days. 

Segerstrom climbed the leaderboard in the second round, jumping four spots after an even-par 70 to tie for third. He had four birdies in his first round and finished at five-over 75.  

Wright had a strong first day for SMCC, shooting a one-under 69 with three birdies. In his second round, Wright posted three more birdies and scored a six-over 76 to finish tied for third. 

Taylor posted a strong second round to move up 16 spots and tie for eighth. He fired a one-under 69 with an eagle on the par-five No. 1 and three birdies. Taylor opened with a 10-over 80 and had one birdie. 

Finally, freshman Luke Padilla competed as an individual and finished 27th at +20 (160). He had scores of 11-over 81 and nine-over 79 in the second. Padilla had a birdie in his first round and carded an eagle-three on the par-five No. 12 in the second round.
