SMCC Men's Golf Places Third at TankLogix & Tall City Exploration Collegiate

Competing against some of the top NJCAA Division I programs in the nation, the South Mountain Community College men's golf team placed third at +13 (865) at the TankLogix & Tall City Exploration Collegiate on Mar. 17-18 at the Quicksand Golf Course in San Angelo, Texas. Individually, sophomore Jorge Parada finished as runner-up at -6 (207), and freshman Adam Croix tied for seventh at +1 (214) on the par-71 course. 

"I am extremely proud of our guys in what was the toughest field we will play in all year," said SMCC head coach Marcus Smith. "To beat a lot of good teams and stay in the fight with some talented NJCAA D1 programs is huge for us this season. I'm so proud of our guys for how they handled themselves in Texas. We built a lot of value and mental toughness on the course this week. This is a special group, and we are just starting to tap into our potential." 

Parada played well throughout the three rounds, holding a one-stroke lead after 36 holes. He posted rounds of three-under 68, one-under 70, and two-under 69 to finish second at -6. 

Parada had four birdies in his first round and carded four birdies plus an eagle three on the par-five No. 8 in his second round. Parada opened his third round with birdies on the first two holes and a second eagle at No. 8. and added one over the final nine holes. He finished three strokes behind Odessa College's Adam Bresnu for individual medalist honors. 

Croix tied for seventh with scores of two-over 73, one-under 71, and an even-par 70. He had four birdies in his first two rounds and five in the third.  

Freshman Jack Taylor tied for 17th at +7 (220) with rounds of four-over 75, one-over 72, and two-over 73. He carded two birdies in the second and third rounds. 

Freshman PJ Segerstrom tied for 27th at +11 (224) with scores of seven-over 78, two-over 73, and two-over 73. He had two birdies in his first and third rounds and four in his second. 

Freshman Luke Padilla tied for 51st at +24 (237) with scores of seven-over 78, 11-over 81, and seven-over 78. He had two birdies in the first and second rounds and added three in his third. 

SMCC finished one stroke behind Odessa College for second and six strokes behind tournament-winner Midland College. The Cougars were the only NJCAA Division II program in the field.
