Bio

Former University of Alabama All-American Kelley Montalvo was named South Mountain Community College softball head coach in October 2023. 

Prior to her appointment with the Cougars, Montalvo served as an assistant coach at Bethune Cookman University (2019-2022), Middle Tennessee State (2013-2015), and Barry University (2018). In 2019, she helped lead the B-CU Widlcats to a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance.

In addition to her work on the softball diamond, Montalvo worked as an administrator at the Somerset Academy in Miramar, Fla., and a permanent substitute teacher and varsity softball coach at Monsignor Edward Pace High School in Miami Gardens, Fla. She also has extensive experience as a motivational speaker, appeared on an episode of MTV's "Made," and worked and appeared in the documentary film "Burn the Ships." 

As a collegiate player, Montalvo excelled with the Crimson Tide and earned NFCA and Easton All-American honors as a junior and a senior. She also received multiple NFCA All-Region and All-SEC awards throughout her career. As a senior, she was a USA Softball Player of the Year candidate and earned a spot on the Women's College World Series All-Tournament Team.

Montalvo finished with 204 hits, 174 runs, 51 doubles, five triples, 30 home runs, 154 RBIs and 57 stolen bases in four seasons at Alabama. She earned a a bachelor's degree in communications and broadcasting in 2009. 

After Alabama, Montalvo spent eight years with the Akron Racers of the National Pro Fastpitch League (NPF). She signed with the Racers as a free agent and had her contract extended three times, making her the franchise's  longest tenured player. 

An All-NPF selection in 2014, 2105 and 2016, she compiled 120 runs, 89 RBIs and 17 home runs in her career. She was the NPF Defensive Player of the Year in 2012, finishing the season with 43 putouts, 93 assists and just three errors for a .978 fielding percentage.
