The South Mountain Community College men's basketball team (3-2) split a pair of home contests last week at the SMCC Gym, defeating AZ Sol Postgraduate 77-56 on Nov. 6 before falling 99-56 to Southern Nevada on Nov. 9. Sophomore Cash Callaway led the Cougars with 18 points while sophomore Nathan Robinson had 16 and sophomore Jacob Taylor added 16 in the win over AZ Sol. Against the Coyotes, Taylor finished with 19 points, and Callway scored 16 in defeat.

Tied at the half, SMCC outscored AZ Sol 44-24 in the second half to post the 77-57 victory. The Cougars shot 40.6 percent (28 of 69) from the field and 37.5 percent (9 of 24) from 3-point range. They pulled down 57 rebounds, including 22 offensive rebounds, and added 14 assists, four steals, and eight blocks in the win.
Callaway was 7 of 14 from the field and 3 of 6 from downtown. In 29 minutes, he added three rebounds, five assists, two steals, and a block.
Robinson went 5 of 9 from the floor and also made three 3-pointers. He recorded his first double-double with 10 rebounds and set a new career best with five blocked shots. Robinson also had two assists and a steal in 31 minutes.
Taylor shot 6 of 15 overall and was the third Cougar to record three 3-pointers. He added three rebounds, two assists, and a steal in 33 minutes.
Sophomore Jayven Driscoll led SMCC with a career-best 13 rebounds and added nine points and an assist in 26 minutes. Freshman David Jackson came off the bench to post nine points and eight rebounds in 21 minutes, and freshman David Yourkoski produced six points and five rebounds.

The Cougars fell 99-56 to the Coyotes in a non-conference contest on Nov. 9. SMCC trailed 49-23 at halftime and lost the second half 50-33. The Cougars shot 33.9 percent (20 of 59) from the floor and 30.8 percent (8 of 26) from 3-point range. They added 32 rebounds, 10 assists, three steals, and four blocks in the loss.
Taylor was 8 of 16 from the field and connected on three 3-pointers for the second-straight game. He added two rebounds, two assists, and two steals in 31 minutes.
Callaway went 5 of 15 from the floor and made four 3-pointers. He added three rebounds and three assists in 27 minutes. Robinson posted nine points, five rebounds, two assists, and four blocks in 28 minutes, and Driscoll came off the bench to record six points and six rebounds in 11 minutes.
