Scottsdale CC Edges SMCC Men's Basketball

The South Mountain Community College men's basketball team (5-6, 2-2 ACCAC) lost 76-75 to Scottsdale CC in an ACCAC road contest on Dec. 11. Sophomore guard Cash Callaway scored a game-high 23 points, including six 3-pointers, sophomore forward Nathan Robinson posted a double-double, and two more Cougars finished in double-figures. However, the Artichokes overcame an eight-point halftime deficit to defeat the Cougars. 

SMCC led 47-39 at halftime, but SCC captured the second half 37-28 to post the conference win. The Cougars shot 35.5 percent (22 of 62) from the field and made 12 3-pointers. They added 34 rebounds, 14 assists, 13 steals, and three blocks. 

Callaway was 7 of 14 from the field and 6 of 12 from downtown in 32 minutes. He added five assists, four rebounds, and three steals and is averaging 18.5 points, 3.7 assists, and 3.1 rebounds in 11 contests. He is shooting 46.5 percent (46 of 99) from 3-point range. 

Robinson recorded his second double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds in 27 minutes. Eight of his boards came on the defensive glass, and he added an assist, a steal, and a block. 

Freshman Jayden Potts scored 11 points in 14 minutes. He added five rebounds, one steal, one assist, and one block. He is averaging 15.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in six contests. 

Freshman McKay Anderson was the fourth Cougar to reach double-figures. He posted 11 points, knocked down two 3-pointers in 26 minutes off the bench, and added three assists, two rebounds, and two steals. 

Sophomore Jacob Taylor had seven points, two rebounds, and two assists, and freshman Julius Williams added five points, two rebounds, and one assist.
