The South Mountain Community College men's basketball team defeated Community Christian College 129-76 on Dec. 13 and 99-66 on Dec. 14 in a pair of non-conference contests at the SMCC Gym. Seven Cougars finished in double-figures in the first victory, with freshman Jayden Potts leading SMCC with 24 points. The following day, Potts poured in a season-high 30 points, sophomore Cash Callaway added 20, and the Cougars improved to 7-6 on the season.
Dec. 13 Recap
The Cougars led 62-37 at halftime and won the second half 67-39 en route to a 129-76 victory. SMCC shot 58.5 percent (50 of 85) from the field and made 17 of 31 (54.8 percent) 3-point attempts. They added 52 rebounds, 32 assists, 10 steals, and two blocks in the victory.
Potts was 9 of 17 from the field and knocked down a season-high five 3-pointers in 34 minutes. He also posted seven rebounds and six steals.
Callaway was second on the team with 20 points, finishing 6 of 10 from the field with four 3-pointers in 20 minutes. He added four rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
Freshman David Jackson came off the bench to post a season-high 17 points in 18 minutes. He added three assists, two rebounds, and a steal.
Sophomore Jacob Taylor posted 15 points, four assists, three steals, and a rebound in 23 minutes, and fellow sophomore Julius Williams compiled 15 points, seven rebounds, and five assists in 34 minutes.
Freshman McKay Anderson had 11 points, six assists, five rebounds, a steal, and a block in 16 minutes off the bench, and sophomore Nathan Robinson produced a double-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, a steal, and a block in 20 minutes.
Sophomore Jayven Driscoll had eight points, four rebounds, and two assists in 20 minutes, and freshman David Yourkoski had nine points and eight rebounds in 15 minutes.
Dec. 14 Recap
The Cougars posted a 99-66 victory over the Saints in the second meeting of the weekend on Dec. 14. SMCC led 55-37 at halftime and won the second half 44-29. The Cougars finished with 51 rebounds, 17 assists, 10 steals, and three blocks. The Cougars shot 54.1 percent (40 of 74) from the field and made eight 3-pointers.
Potts set new season bests with 30 points and 13 field goals in 29 minutes. He added nine rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one block, averaging 18.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.3 assists in eight games.
Callaway produced 21 points in 22 minutes, finishing 8 of 12 from the field with five 3-pointers. He added six rebounds, two assists, and two steals, averaging 18.8 points, 3.6 assists, and 3.4 rebounds in 13 games.
Taylor posted 14 points, four rebounds, three assists, and a steal in 33 minutes, and Yourkoski came off the bench to finish with 10 points, four rebounds, a steal, and an assist.
Driscoll grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds and added seven points, two assists, a steal, and a block in 22 minutes. Williams had eight points, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals in 22 minutes, and Robinson had five points and four rebounds.
