SMCC Men's Soccer Places Three on All-ACCAC Team

The South Mountain Community College men's soccer team placed three members on the 2023 All-ACCAC and All-Region I Division II honors, as voted upon by the league's coaches. Freshmen Atxel Medrano and Alfonso Maldonado received Second Team All-ACCAC honors, while sophomore Conlan McCoy received Honorable Mention All-ACCAC. All three earned a spot on the Second Team All-Region I Division II team. 

Maldonado led SMCC with five goals and 11 points in the 2023 campaign. He appeared in 12 matches, made nine starts, and finished the year with 17 shots, of which 15 were on goal.

He opened his account with a goal against Gateway CC on Aug. 29 in the Cougars' 3-0 victory. He then posted a brace with a pair of goals at Paradise Valley on Sept. 5 and scored in a third-straight match with a tally against Chandler-Gilbert CC in a 1-1 draw. He scored his final goal of the season in a game at Mesa CC, and his assist came in the win over the Geckos. 

Medrano appeared in 13 matches and made nine starts in 2023, finishing with three goals, two assists and eight points. He added 14 shots over the 12 contests, putting all but one on the frame. 

He scored his first goal of the season in the Cougars' 3-0 victory over Gateway CC and also found paydirt in contests against Eastern Arizona on Sept. 23 and at Glendale CC on Sept. 30. He also had an assist against the Gauchos and recorded his first assist of the season in the 1-1 draw with CGCC. 

McCoy started all 13 games for SMCC in 2013 and finished the season with seven shots. He started all 23 matches in which he appeared over his SMCC career and finished with two career assists.
